It was February 28, 2018 when I started this “little business.” What first started as a Dream, has morphed into something much bigger than I could have imagined. Although, I’d have to admit I did have an inkling. Even when the name itself was foreign to most people, my focus remained the same: Build the business you want to see. Now, 5 years laters, I can’t help but reflect on the lessons I’ve learned chasing this Dream. Here’s 5:
1. Procrastination is the thief of time
My grandmother’s favorite and a lesson I’m still learning to master. Even as I write this, I’m behind on schedule. However, I’m a work in progress lol. I understand that postponing things unnecessarily only causes people to waste time, and that’s too precut waste.
2. Just Do It
There’s a reason Nike has a billion dollar slogan, because it’s really that simple. So do it alone, do it afraid… just do it!
3. MINE your business
If I told you you were sitting on a Gold Mine would you believe me? Well you are! Your ideas are worth more than gold. You just have to start Mining it.
4. Currency Lives Next Door to Consistency
In order to cultivate the riches you desire, you must first learn to be consistent. Only then will the doors of opportunity open.
5. SMART goals
The only goals you should be interested in are the “smart” ones. Goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound (time frame)
Outlier (noun) – A person who differs from other members in a particular group.
The Travel Outlier
When building my company (then and now) I want to always be reminded that this journey is mine. The name is a reminder that there is no one like me and that is my “superpower”.
The representation of folks who look like me (and probably you) are slim in the travel industry sparking an entire Black Travel Movement. The Travel Outlier is an ode to that movement Representing all that is black travel; through my perspective and other Outliers along the way.
